During your study you will gain a basic understanding of mental health, wellness and recovery. Mental health support workers assist and encourage people in practical, everyday ways to improve the quality of their life. As a student you may already be working in mental health or may have also experienced your own mental health issues or supported family/friends through mental illness and this is what is driving your passion to help others.

Throughout the course you will cover areas including

  • You will learn what is up-to-date and relevant to Mental Health workers
  • You will gain practical experience through placement opportunities
  • Develop effective communication skills to be able to enhance your relationships with patients as well as their family and fellow community workers
  • Understand how health standards, service specifications and legislation impact on your work Note if you are looking at Mental Health Nurse –please refer to Nursing.
