Hairdressing » Overview

Want to follow in Vidal Sassoon's footsteps and create something like the infamous 'bob' haircut? You can learn to cut, colour and style hair and become a professional in the industry.

Hairdressing includes everything to do with hair care, styling, colouring and cutting. As you can see, Hairdressing is a very broad subject and allows for you to specialise in an area of your choice. For example, you may be interested in being a colourist, or you may prefer cutting hair. Regardless of which aspects of Hairdressing you are interested in, it is important that you learn the skills and techniques to be professional. This entails learning the theory and practices associated with the trade, and also learning how to interact with clients in a professional manner.

Learning to cut hair is much more than meets the eye. As you will learn, studying hairdressing involves remembering what technique and formulas to use dependant on the style of cut, length, face shape and thickness of hair. Hairdressing is an art form that you must learn in order to be a master. Not only does hairdressing involve cutting, but there is an increasing trend for both natural and unnatural shades of colours.

Hairdressing also involves learning impeccable communication and customer service skills. Making sure a client is relaxed, entertained, comfortable and enjoying the overall experience of the salon, can be as important as how the final hairstyle looks.
