English » Overview

Do you see yourself as a television presenter, a political reporter, or an award-winning novelist? What do all of these professions have in common? They all require people who can read, write, speak and think clearly, effectively and creatively.

The study of English involves more than just the language we speak, it expands into history and culture. English provides superb guidance in critical thinking, analytical skills and the organisation and communication of ideas.  Not only does studying English ensure students develop the skills that the information age requires, but it also promotes active engagement with cultural values, fostering a questioning and critical mind.

New Zealand is a melting-pot of people from different cultures, many of whom have a language other than English as their mother tongue. English Language Acquisition courses will leave you with an understanding of how language works and how people learn a language as a second or third language, as well as providing you will the teaching skills required to impart your knowledge of the English language.
