Economics

Far from graphs and theories, Economics is about the real world. Have you ever had the dilemma of receiving your paycheck and then had to decide whether you are going to buy a new t-shirt or put it in the bank? Studying Economics teaches you how one person’s simple transactions, can affect the whole economy.

Economists play a key role in decision-making and allocating resources between people, businesses and governments.  Their decisions affect everyday life ranging from housing, energy, the environment and transport. You will study the various market structures and how they interact with the rest of the environment to create profit.

You will learn to apply economics theories to real world problems. Economics is often divided into two parts, macro and microeconomics. Microeconomics looks at economics at the consumer level. Analysing individual choice and how specific products are priced and driven through markets. Macroeconomics, looks at the interaction between economics and the wider systems of governance and people. Examples of this are inflation, unemployment and exchange rates. Economics is something that can be studied and applied to various careers. Because the economy shapes every level of the social world, careers for Economics majors are endless.
