Development Studies is the area of the social sciences that deals with the issues and challenges facing countries and communities. It looks at the problems that have arisen from colonisation, as well as the challenges that developing countries face in trying coincide with the developed world and the global issues that stem from this. In addition to looking at which problems exist and how they came to be, Development Studies also aims to discover ways in which they might be overcome.

Not only does Development Studies look at the history of migration, but it has a strong connection to people and the environment. This means studying the history of natural disasters and their effects on nations. Global warming is also a key player in this. With the world experiencing its first refugees of global warming, there has been no more of an important time to get involved in helping to solve these issues. It’s not just something that will impact this generation, but future generations to come.
