Computer Science » Career Opportunities
There is a high demand for graduates with skills and knowledge in computer science, especially when these are combined with good communication skills and teamwork ability. The field is wide open and whilst jobs are far fetching, it may even be the case that your future job has not been thought of when you start your study – the computer world is never static.
Employment opportunities exist within those organisations that run large computer based systems, for example finance companies, airline companies and consulting companies. Roles often will lead to both national and international travel and some graduates will often come out of university with the desire to set up and run their own software company.
Study in computing will obviously, for some, lead to a career in computing; however, for most it is a good basis for a career where computer systems are applied. For example, computer graphics, education and computer forensics with roles varying from software engineer to Internet developer.
Computer Science can lead into the following careers
Computer systems technicians assemble, install, maintain and repair computer hardware, software and related equipment.
Telecommunications engineers study, design, test and build telecommunications networks.
Website developers design, produce and maintain websites.
Software architects analyse an organisation's software and design and oversee the development of a new software system.
Programmers write, test, develop and maintain computer software programs.
