Including Asian Studies in your general study will assist you with other studies you are completing whether it is Political Science or Economics. The courses at an initial stage are often quite broad in that it explores New Zealand’s involvement with Asia and then in the later parts will become more diverse offering papers in so many directions that you can really get into the detail of what elements of Asian Studies fascinate you.

  • Contemporary asian society: looking at modern day Asian societies and the economic, political and social and how changes in these elements have shaped the development of different cultures.
  • East asian politics: examining the big players such as Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan and issues such as their political history, policy, economic and social development and foreign policies.
  • Asia and Europe: from past to present how Asia and Europe have interacted and the desirable qualities that Europe has for Asians and vice versa.
