Air Traffic Control

If you’re interested in studying something fast paced and also promises a job at the end of your training, then training as an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) could be for you. Becoming a qualified ATC gives you more than a job. Once you’re qualified you’ve got a life of potential, that can take you anywhere in the world.

ATCs keep aircrafts separated and operating in a safe, efficient and orderly pattern. It’s a job with a lot of responsibility as you’re on a team that’s in charge of making sure there are no in-air or on-ground plane collisions.

Here are three specific jobs you may train to work towards:

Tower Controllers:  working as a Tower Controller, means you are positioned in an aerodrome’s control tower. Traffic is primarily controlled here visually, but towers also come equipped with radar screens to support visual scouting.

Area Radar Controllers:  working in this role means the responsibility of giving landing and takeoff instructions to pilots in airborne aircrafts. Pilots are required to listen to your instructions, and rely on you to direct them safely. Area Radar Controllers control traffic by radar in the upper control area of an airport.

Approach Radar Controllers: working in this role involves working closely with Tower Controllers and Area Radar Controllers. They work in the radar centre and manage with arriving and departing aircrafts.

As you can see, the job is full of responsibility and prestige. No day in this profession is the same, which makes it a highly rewarding career.
