The aim of most agriculture courses is to produce well rounded students who are knowledgeable in all areas of agriculture - pastures, animals, soils and climate, economics and business. However, you may be given the option to specialise or focus on specific areas that interest you as your study progresses.

While some argue the value of academic learning for someone who is entering the agriculture sector, which is typically associated with hands-on learning, the knowledge and skills from studying Agriculture gives students a sound foundation for future pratical learning.

Topics you may cover

  • Animal and food science production: processing food for consumers, food product qualities, and animal health and product quality
  • Soil and plant science/production: soil management, plant pest management and forest biology.
  • Management and marketing studies: looking at specific management tools and techniques to apply to farming and the horticulture sectors.
  • Agribusiness: composed of input suppliers, producers, processors, distributors and those at the retail end of the chain and looking at the interaction of relationships across participants in the agriculture sector
