Victoria University of Wellington is committed to Maori Student recruitment, retention and achievement. Through scholarship support, the University aims foster the academic achievement that contributes to the university and the wider community that the scholarship recipient will make.

The purpose of the scholarship is to recruit academically able students from Wharekura schools to a Bachelor's degree programme at Victoria University. A Wharekura is defined as the secondary school component of a Kura Kaupapa Maori established under section 155 of the Education Act 1989 or a designated character school with a kaupapa Maori base established under section 156 of the Education Act 1989.

Applicants must show academic potential and financial need may be considered as a factor in choice of recipient. Any student who has completed or is completing their studies at a Wharekura and has applied to be or is enrolled as a full-time student at Victoria University is eligible to apply.
