Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence School Leaver Scholarship

The Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence School Leaver Scholarship was established in 2011 to recognise academic excellence in National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), or in the Cambridge International examinations (CIE), or in International Baccalaureate (IB).

Most candidates do not need to formally apply for this Scholarship. However, if you have taken a 'gap year', you will not be automatically considered; therefore, you may need to formally apply by filling in an application form. 

In order to be eligible to for consideration, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand.
  • Have achieved University Entrance.
  • Have achieved the NCEA Level 3 Certificate with an Excellence endorsement, or equivalent, through a New Zealand school.
  • Apply to enrol at the University of Waikato by the application deadline for new students.
  • Apply to study as a full-time student (in a minimum of 120 points, usually eight papers) in an undergraduate degree.
  • Be enrolling at the University for the first time (Candidates who have undertaken STAR papers at the University of Waikato are NOT excluded by this clause) in 2013, and commencing study in the first semester of 2013.
