Step Higher Award

Value: Varying

Tenure: Unspecified

The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship was introduced in 2005 by the University of Waikato to develop a pathway for developing future leaders. The Step Higher Award was further developed to provide an aspirational goal for our senior Sir Edmund Hilary scholars who are leading by example and giving back to their community.

Each year up to three Sir Edmund Hilary scholars who have displayed outstanding leadership will be sent to the Khumbu Valley in Nepal to complete some community work and, perhaps, climb to Base Camp. The trip will coincide with University breaks and should last approximately 2-3 weeks.

The total value of the three scholarships is a maximum of $15,000, which will be used to cover travel, accommodation, insurance and a daily allowance.

The scholarship is open to both New Zealand citizens/permanent residents and international students, as long and you are a current Sir Edmund Hilary Programme member and have been on the programme for two years.
