Southern Sinfonia Scholarship for Orchestral Performance

Tenure: One year

The Southern Sinfonia wishes to encourage study and performance of orchestral instruments at the University of Otago. This scholarship intends to foster the performance careers of exceptionally talented musicians who demonstrate a strong ambition to an orchestral career.

A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded annually by the orchestra to a first-year music performance student who is studying one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet or trombone.

Applicants must:

  • be enrolling for the first year of MusB performance on an orchestral instrument.
  • permanently reside in another centre – i.e. outside Dunedin metropolitan centre.
  • be a New Zealand citizen or a New Zealand Permanent Resident.
  • pass the Department of Music entrance audition, live or by DVD, as well as the Sinfonia’s audition which will be held simultaneously.
