The Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan) established the Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship in 2005 to encourage international students to undertake mandarin study in Taiwan.

Applicants must have prior excellent academic performance, must not hold the Republic of China (Taiwan) nationality, must not be an overseas Chinese student, must not be a current student at a Mandarin training centre or at a university in Taiwan, and must not be a recipient of a scholarship or subsidy being offered by any government or education institution in Taiwan.

Scholarship recipients are able to choose four options regarding the award periods:

  • one year
  • nine months
  • six months
  • three months.

A stipend of NT$25,000 is to be offered each month.
