These scholarships were established by the College of Arts at the University of Canterbury in 2011.

The purpose of the award is to support high achieving students commencing undergraduate degree programmes.

The scholarship applies to students who are intending to major in any of the following subjects: American Studies, Art History & Theory, Cinema Studies, Classics, English, History, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Linguistics, European Languages &Cultures, Maori & Indigenous Studies, Te Reo Maori, Anthropology, Media & Communication, Political Science (including ILAP & DIPL), Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, European Studies and European Union Studies, Fine Arts, Music and Theatre & Film Studies.

Successful candidates will be chosen based on:

  • NCEA Level 2 or 3 results (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of potential - based on a school reference and personal statement about how a scholarship will enable the student to make a difference in their community
