Why did you choose this course?
Throughout highschool I had an interest in science. I thought with the current global affairs with the oceans (Global warming, over fishing, sustainability etc.) it would provide a platform for my passion for the marine environment to act upon and make a difference for future generations in my field of work.
What do you enjoy about your course?
My course is really hands on - lots of field trips and lab work. The best part about my course is being shown new perspectives on the global challanges we face in the marine environment. The viewpoints from informed lecturers are real and their passion for their work drives me personally in my belief to work harder and achieve my goals.
What will help you to successfully complete your course?
The lecturers' guidance and also the University staff. They are always ready to provide assistance - help with assignments, sorting out papers etc. I think in order to succeed in your course and do well, regardless of what assistance is provided, you have to have an initial interest in what you are studying and not just study for the sake of studying.
What advice to you have for future students?
Go out, have fun, meet new people, make new friends. University is the time of your life where parents don't really have a say anymore and you are your own person. Enjoy the freedom, play hard but work harder and you'll end up with the best of both worlds.
