Live and learn amongst the mountains, lakes and rivers of the spectacular Southern Lakes region.

The Mountain Education Centre of New Zealand (MECNZ) is a division of Tai Poutini Polytechnic and is based in Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand. It is home to the Ski Patrol Programme, which attracts students from all over New Zealand and around the world.

Wanaka is the ideal location for the Ski Patrol Programme – you will be living and learning amongst the mountains, lakes and rivers of the region. The Treble Cone ski area is an adventure destination that offers numerous skiing/riding, mountain climbing, mountain biking, paddling and tramping opportunities and is filled with numerous adventurous people who drawn to these outdoor activities.

MECNZ Ski Patrol Programmes incorporate both theoretical and practical learning, meaning that your classrooms will be indoors and on the snow. This unique combination is aimed to provide you with the best possible training for your future career in ski patrolling. In addition, you will also be given the opportunity to undertake some hands-on learning with a supervised placement in a New Zealand ski patrol.

The teaching staff at MECNZ have come from senior positions in the industry, either in ski patrol and/or snow safety. Not only are they skilled teachers, but also have invaluable ‘real world’ experience to ensure that the programme meets the standards of the industry.
