Does Mainfreight offer scholarships for students who plan on joining them after finishing their studies?

I am a year 13 student going to university next year, what sort of graduates are you looking for in your graduate programmes?

Hi Benjamin,

Yes you are correct - our founder Bruce Plested worked in our warehouses and depots, loading trucks, doing deliveries and even sweeping the floor. This still remains an important part of our culture and all of our senior managers are team who have started on the floor (learning to sweep and load) and progressed through the business. We only promote from within so everyone, even new graduates who start with us take on an entry level role in order to learn how the company works from the ground up.

Hi Amy,

As a global company there are always opportunities for our team to head overseas and work in one of our offices. However, this comes with a lot of hard work and dedication to the company. If someone was to relocate it would be for the long term rather than temporary overseas travel and it would be because they have a set of skills or particular traits that are needed somewhere.

Hi there,

I am interested in Mainfreight as an employer and have been told that I need to have a health and safety certificate and forklift licence if I want to be hired. Can you shed some light on this please?

Thanks :)

Hi Louisa,

We are on the lookout for movers and shakers to join our graduate team. We are not as concerned about what you have studied or your grades but rather if you as a person are a great fit for the Mainfreight team.

So in a nutshell - we take graduates from any study background

Hi Mainfreight team,

What can I expect from being part of the team at Mainfreight if I was to be hired?

Hi Jake,

Unfortunately we don't currently offer scholarships for students while they are studying.

We do offer scholarships for our team whose children are attending university though to assist with their study costs

Hi Emily,

Not sure where this information came from but it's certainly not the case!

We offer full training to team who join us, so we train you up in the health and safety processes and also provide you with the training and licencing for your forkhoist if required.

Hi Peter,

You can expect a dynamic environment, workmates that are like family and a progressive career that is only limited by how far you want to go!

Hi Lizzie,

Do you offer office roles to school leavers or do I need to have some sort of degree first?

Hi Amelia,
Great question! Here at Mainfreight we are really keen to bring school leavers on board. The most important thing for us is the right attitude so to answer your question, no you don't need a degree to apply for a role with us.

Hey Mainfreight

I heard that if you work for Mainfrieght after uni you have to work in the warehouse first. how long do you do this for before you get to move into different jobs

Hi Adelaide,
You are spot on there :) everyone starts on a level playing field from the beginning, this is to learn the nuts and bolts of the business and to get to know the team. The amount of time varies from person to person but for a Uni Graduate we tend to say about a year, sometimes it can be less or sometimes it can be more. From there you would move into a role like Customer Service to learn the business more broadly.

Hi Lizzie,

Do you ever allow students to come out and see the sites / centres? I am interested in Mainfreight but would like to see where I would potentially be working first..?

Thanks

Hi Sarah,
This is something that we could definitely organise, even better if there were a couple of you that would like to come and have a look. If you are keen, you can send me an email at careers@mainfreight.co.nz and we can sort something out :)

What can mainfreight offer in terms of a marketing career?

Hi Ashleigh,
Mainfreight doesn't have a designated Marketing Team, however there are pockets of people that are involved in marketing aspects such as keeping an eye on our Facebook page and our internal communications. We like to think our trucks and buildings, always in immaculate state might I add ;) are a form of our marketing. The closest we would have is probably our Sales Reps as they are out there everyday trying to sell our service to potential customers face to face.  Thanks for your question!
