Did you know that we recruit graduates and interns that study a variety of degrees (not just accounting)? Some of the degrees we recruit from include: engineering, science, HR, IT/IS, computer science, arts, economics, finance, politics, social science, law and maths.

Hi EY,

Do you offer CA or CPA pathway? If so, do you have an opinion of which is better?

Thanks

Hi Jacqui,

Could you explain to me a little bit about EY and the work/office culture? How would I be treated in an entry level position?

Hi Emily, we support both pathways. We would recommend that you speak with the CA and CPA representatives to decide on which is the best pathway for you to take depending on what you are studying and where you are looking to go with your career. They offer a number of information/Q&A sessions at universities across New Zealand. This year we attended the CA ANZ expos earlier in the year and will be at the upcoming CPA expo in Auckland.

Hi EY,

What internship positions do you have on offer for people who go onto tertiary study?

How many postions do you have available?

Hi EY,

My careers teachers mentioned something about a careers compass day that you can do when youre at uni. What is this?

Are there travel opportunities with EY?

Hi Ashleigh, in New Zealand we have over 700 people working in our three offices (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch). All of our offices are open plan so you may be sitting next to a senior leader/partner one day and a fellow graduate/intern the next day. We move into our new office in Christchurch next year which is super exciting! We work with different people and in different teams so being able to collaborate with others is important. When you start as a graduate or intern you get a buddy who is someone that you can ask questions like e.g. how do I do my timesheet, can you help me with finding this information etc. Everyone at EY is very friendly as they remember what it was like on their first day in a new place!

Hi Paige, we offer scholarships/awards to students that are already at university so we would encourage you to check these out at the scholarship offices at the university you are looking to study at.

Hi Sam, we offer internship positions at all our New Zealand offices. This year we recruited interns to join us in Assurance, Tax, Advisory and Transaction Advisory Services. We recruit our interns during March every year and really encourage students to apply for internship programmes as they give you a great experience of what you will be doing and with some programmes you can go back to university knowing you have a permanent position once you graduate - this is the case with EY's programme. We fill most of our graduate positions through our internship programme and it is a paid internship too!

What graduate training is offered at EY? And do you only offer roles to those who have studied accounting?

Thanks for your question Tom! We offer a one day programme for students in their first and second year to come and spend a day at one of our offices. Here we talk about the professional services industry, EY, you get to meet and network with our people, we run personal development sessions and of course have FUN! It's a great way to find out more about EY and you walk away meeting some new friends. We run this programme in semester two every year.

Hi Rhiannon, this depends on the service line that you work in. For example our graduates and interns that are in Assurance and Advisory are always out at clients - this maybe a client in their home city, outside their city or overseas. The great thing is that EY has offices in over 150 countries so there are opportunities to travel and work outside of New Zealand.

Hi EY,

Do you hire people with Engineering and IT backgrounds?

Can you work for the legal department of EY if you want to study law, or is this completely seperate to the accounting parts?

Hi Stanley, our graduates receive a lot of technical and soft skill training in their first year however there is heaps of ongoing training throughout your career with EY as things are always changing. We support graduates with external qualifications and you are always learning from people around you on a daily basis. We certainly offer roles to students studying accounting - you may be interested to work in our Assurance, Advisory, Tax or Transaction Advisory team. I'd encourage you to look at our website and if you see EY at school, at university or meet any of our people, don't be shy to ask them what they do.
