About IRD

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD), plays a vital role in making sure the country runs smoothly, by redistributing income. IRD collects 85% of the revenue for the Crown’s industries. This includes funding for industries such as government departments, power companies, public sector hospitals and tertiary institutions.

IRD is responsible for making sure every citizen complies with the system that makes New Zealand an equitable place to live. Our job is to make sure everyone contributes to our flourishing society, and appropriate action is taken for those who do not.

Our main goal is to deliver a world-class tax system, which will in turn improve the economic and social wellbeing of all New Zealanders.  In order to do this, we acknowledge that we need to continue to employ the brightest and most innovative young minds.

We offer a range of opportunities for students here at IRD, from project management to tax investigators, and are always looking to for students to come on board.
