What did you study? Bachelor of Business Analysis (Financial) at the University of Waikato.

Why did you choose this course? I knew I wanted to work in business and the world-class Waikato Management School was a great first step in my career. Also, it meets the academic requirements for further study toward my chartered accountancy with CAANZ.

What did you enjoy about your course? I think it is important to keep options open when you’re starting out in your career. I enjoyed being able to study a broad range of subjects and getting a taste of the different aspects of business while also specialising in accounting.

What helped you to successfully complete your course? Having people in my life that were a few steps ahead of me in the career I wanted who acted as “career mentors” for me. These people helped inspire me to work hard and aim high. Also, having the support of friends and family helped keep me on track as uni life can get hard at times and comes with a lot of distractions!

What advice do you have for future students? Once you know it’s the career for you, it’s never too soon to start looking into what you want to do after uni. Accounting firms are great at offering internships and work experience while you’re still at school or at uni. Exploring these opportunities helped secure a job for me once I finished my degree.
