Youth Worker

Youth workers work with people under 25 years of age and their families. They provide services that help young people build relationships and connect with their community. They may work as mentors on a one-on-one basis, or with groups, running programmes. They may be called upon to run events or to speak to groups of young people. Youth workers work in prisons, schools, community organisations and recreation centres. They may be focused on health and fitness, personal development or providing leisure activities in the school holidays. They may also be assigned to one young person to act as a tutor, role model or mediator. Youth workers are an important part of the community and often go on to other roles, such as social work, occupational therapy, motivational speaking and teaching, coaching or tutoring.
