Telecommunications Engineer

Telecommunications engineers study, design, test and build telecommunications networks, such as cellphone and Internet-related hardware, for communication systems. Many of the products and services they design are used by almost everyone in the developed world on a daily basis.

Telecommunications engineers may choose to focus on a specific area of telecommunications, such as fibre optics, networking or circuit design. They may work on microscopic processors and circuits, or huge infrastructures to establish wireless Internet connection for organisations.

In addition to the design responsibilities of the role, many telecommunications engineers are responsible for the maintenance of the products or systems they design. They also need to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date throughout their career.
