Technical Writer

Technical writers prepare clear, concisely written documentation that communicates technical information to a target audience. For example, technical writers are responsible for such things as writing user manuals for software, guidelines for operating industrial machinery and design or engineering specifications for construction projects. As you can see, this is a very diverse field.

Technical writers need to have excellent written communication skills and must also be knowledgeable about the field in which they work. This means that technical writers often have two degrees – the first in writing and communication and one in a specialised field. Technical writers can be found in engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, technology and a number of other industries.
