Programmer » Overview

Programmers write, test, develop and maintain computer software programs. In a nutshell, they are the brains behind a computer programme. Programmers write detailed instructions that guide the computer through the logical steps necessary when used for specific functions, or applications.

Programmers are employed in almost every sector of business. But what do programmers actually do? To begin with, they meet with the employer to get an understanding of the goals of the proposed programme. Once they know what the employer wants, they figure out how the information should travel through the system in the most logical way. Then, the programmer chooses the ‘language’ used to create the programme; different types of code are used depending on where and how the programme is used. Once the programme is finished, the programmer runs it to identify whether are any glitches in the application. This process continues until every little bug is fixed, and the application runs flawlessly.
