Judge » Overview

Judges listen to court cases and make decisions on matters of law and, in the absence of a jury, facts. Although a jury is usually responsible for deciding a person’s innocence or guilt, Judges serve an important function in court. There are a number of legal rules that impact the way a trial is run. The judge is responsible for making sure that these rules are adhered to and decide what is and what is not admissible to present in front of a jury. In film and television you will have heard judges referred to as ‘your honour’. This is because the position is considered to be a honourable position and judges should be treated accordingly.
