Industrial and Organisational Psychologist

Industrial and organisational psychologists investigate workplaces and recommend ways to improve workers' efficiency and effectiveness. Psychologists who specialise in this area often work as consultants and visit different businesses to devise strategies on how to improve them. However, large companies may employ an industrial and organisational psychologist on a long-term basis.

As well as analysing the factors that affect productivity, profits and worker wellbeing and attitudes, industrial and organisational psychologists may also be employed to provide counselling to employees. Basically, they are interested in people’s behaviour, personalities and performance at work. Once they have interviewed and observed employees and management, industrial and organisational psychologists come up with ways how management can resolve conflicts and improve employees’ morale and motivation.
