Hospital Orderly

Hospital orderlies assist medical staff, and transport patients, medical equipment and supplies to and from wards and departments in hospitals. They may undertake duties such as turning patients who are bed-ridden and giving them sponge baths or preparing rooms for patients being admitted. They work mainly indoors in public or private hospitals and sometimes rest homes, alongside doctors, surgeons, nurses, carers, cleaners, patients and administrators. They play an important part in the smooth running of a hospital and making sure equipment and patients arrive at their destinations on time. They may also have security duties.
