Geologist » Overview

Geologists study the structure and history of the Earth and earth processes. They also give advice on natural hazards and the development and use of the Earth's resources and land.

Geologists often choose to specialise in a particular area. For example, field geologists are interested in performing surveys of particular areas of land to gather information about its natural rock and mineral features. Mining geologists are interested in whether minerals, rocks, gas and gems can be extracted from mines, pits and quarries. Marine geologists, who are often referred to as oceanographers, are interested in the natural processes that happen on ocean floors and beaches.
