General Labourer » Overview

General Labourer

General labourers do a variety of manual tasks on worksites such as forests, gardens, construction sites and roads. They may do seasonal work, such as fruit picking, gardening or harvesting. There are many jobs available for general labourers in a wide variety of settings. Labourers are in demand, particularly in the construction industry, but also in domestic, farm or orchard settings. General labourers work with farm owners, construction workers, painters and decorators, plumbers and many others. They may work alone or as part of a team. Some labourers are given accommodation instead of payment. Working as a general labourer is a great way to gain on-the-job experience towards working as a tradesperson or building professional. Many apprentice building professionals do general labouring duties as part of their apprenticeships.
