Foreign Policy Officer

The government sends people who hold this position to a foreign country. While they are there they are responsible for a number of different duties. For example, they may be required to issue emergency replacement passports for citizens travelling overseas. However, the main purpose of a foreign policy officer is to maintain friendly relationships with local governments to further the interest of their home country. As a result, people in this position are required to have strong oral and written communication skills and have a well-rounded knowledge of history, geography, government, politics, world culture and other relevant subjects. However, foreign policy officers are often appointed to a specific area of expertise, such as public diplomacy, politics, economics or management.
