Florist

Florists design and prepare flower arrangements, and sell flowers, indoor plants and accessories such as vases and baskets. Florists primarily deal with cut flowers, leaving the cultivation of flowers to horticulturalists and nurseries, although some also sell potted plants.

The primary tasks of florists is flower arranging. Many stores sell a selection of bouquets that are available for customers to purchase of the shelf. However, they also offer the opportunity for customers to customise their arrangements, either pre-arrange (for example, wedding bouquets), or custom order a bouquet on the spot.

Florists may also be knowledgeable about the symbolism of flowers and their meanings in different cultures. For example, certain colours and types of flowers are considered bad luck at weddings.
