Fishery Officer

Fishery officers gather information on all aspects of the fishing industry and enforce fisheries laws. We all want to make sure that there are enough sea creates left in the sea for future generations to enjoy, and fishery officers work around New Zealand’s coast to help make this happen.

Fishery officers make sure that all fishers understand and stick to New Zealand fishing rules. This involves the monitoring of commercial, customary and recreational fishing. They also investigate illegal activities, such as people taking more fish than they’re allowed, or taking fish that are undersize.
