Film/Television Camera Operator » Overview

Film/Television Camera Operator

Camera operators are referred to differently depending on whether they are working in film, television or video. For example, the leading camera operator in filmmaking is referred to as a cinematographer, whereas a camera operator in video production is referred to as a videographer. Regardless, camera operators physically operate the camera and are responsible for making sure that the subject is within shot, and maintaining camera angles. The lead camera operator may also be responsible for collaborating with the director in making technical and creative decisions about how scenes will be shot.
