Detective » Entry Pathways

To become a detective you need to be in the New Zealand Police and have spent two years as a probationary constable. You must also have been invited to become a uniformed attachment (a constable who works alongside a specialist unit) to the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). Following this, you must have been accepted into and have passed the CIB selection process. Finally, you will undertake two and a half years of detective training (mostly on the job).
