Dental Hygienist

Dental hygienists treat gum diseases and help people to maintain good oral and general health by educating them about how to prevent oral disease through care of their teeth and gums. They also clean people’s teeth and gums using specialised equipment and dental products and may be required to demonstrate dental practices.

Dental hygienists usually work indoors in dental clinics, alongside dentists, dental technicians and sometimes nurses and administrators. Often they will be required to stand for long periods of time and to operate specialist machinery and dental instruments. They are trained professionals and may go on to train as dentists, technicians or own their own businesses.
