Counsellor » Overview

Counsellors help people to deal with their feelings and responses, and decide on actions they can take to solve problems. They may work indoors with clients on a one-on-one private basis, alongside other carers, social workers and support people. Being a counsellor requires great listening skills, as you will be listening to people as they share their personal challenges and situations with you on a daily basis. Many counsellors study psychology and may have an interest in social issues or how the mind works. They may also work in other areas of the community, such as social work or community volunteer work. They may work for a company or go on to start their own practice.
