Community Worker

Community workers assist individuals, families, groups and organisations and support community development. Community work covers a broad spectrum of roles, from working with young people through to working on council projects, such as creating parks and running events in the community. Some community workers are volunteers, while others work in more managerial positions, supervising teams and overseeing community projects. Community work may be indoors or outdoors and may involve working alongside council workers, labourers, volunteers and people from a variety of ages and ethnic backgrounds. Some community workers go on to roles in social work or for councils or government. Working in the community requires tolerance and the ability to work with a wide range of people and to have an interest in seeing people participate in their local communities.
