Career Consultant

Career consultants assist individuals and groups with their career decision-making, and may assist with an individual's self-development and job search. Essentially, they try to match a person’s goals and abilities with opportunities to work in a given field or industry. To do this, a career consultant may assess a person’s strengths and weaknesses and try to position them, or point them in the direction of a career that is both financially and personally rewarding.

People seek the assistance of careers consultants for a number of reasons. For example, a young graduate may work with a career consultant to help them focus their job search. Alternatively, they are also helpful when considering a change in career. This is particularly significant for individuals who find themselves ‘downsized’ out of a company – a careers consultant can help them find new ways of making use of their skills.
