Biochemist » Overview

Biochemists study the chemical structure and function of living cells in animals, plants and micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses. A biochemist examines the chemical and physical processes of cells, identifies strains of diseases and develops new medicines to combat these diseases. Essentially, biochemists discover how and why certain processes occur and use this information to develop medical, industrial and agricultural products. Biochemists can work independently; however, it is not uncommon for a group of biochemists to band together and group their research findings.
