Anaesthetist » Overview

Anaesthetists administer different forms of anaesthetics to make patients unaware and free of pain during and after surgical procedures. They are highly trained and use a variety of medical instruments and equipment in their work. They usually work indoors in operating theatres and may be required 'on call' for emergency operations. They are skilled at working with the medications and equipment required to administer anaesthetic. People who have operations rely on anaesthetists to help them undergo procedures and sometimes to help after an operation is complete. Anaesthetists play an important role in hospitals and must be extremely reliable and accurate in their work, as people’s lives may be at risk if they make a mistake.
