Aviation Refueller

Basic Training

Upon successful enlistment into the Air Force you’ll be posted to RNZAF Base Woodbourne (near Blenheim). Here you’ll do 12 weeks of basic military training to find out if you’ve got what it takes to be in the Air force, and learn various subjects including:

  • Organisation and Administration

  • RNZAF Customs and Protocol

  • Drill and Parades

  • Military Field Skills and Weapon Training

  • First Aid, and Search and Rescue Techniques

  • Physical Fitness

Job Training

You’ll then spend about six months completing specialist driving courses to obtain driving licence classes and endorsements to drive a wide range of vehicles and gain a wide range of driving skills. Once this primary trade training is complete, you will be posted to a base where over the next  24 months you will begin your training in aviation refuelling.

The first step in this process is learning how to operate the Deployable Bulk Fuelling Installation – the equipment set up in remote locations to supply aviation fuel to aircraft. This training is delivered via a five-week course that covers fuel handling and testing, operation of the equipment, emergency procedures, and set-up and breakdown of the deployable installation.

Force Protection

Basic Training

Upon successful enlistment into the Air Force you’ll be posted to RNZAF Base Woodbourne (near Blenheim).

Here you’ll do 12 weeks of basic military training to find out if you’ve got what it takes to be in the Air force, and learn various subjects including:

  • Organisation and Administration
  • RNZAF Customs and Protocol
  • Drill and Parades
  • Military Field Skills and Weapon Training
  • First Aid, and Search and Rescue Techniques
  • Physical Fitness

Job Training

After 12 weeks basic military training, you’ll attend a 15-week Air Security Course followed by two years’ on-the-job training. During this time, you’ll complete light and heavy 4WD driving courses.

Advanced Trade Training includes modules covering advanced ground defence procedures, a basic service police course and a basic physical training instructor's course. Over the next three years you will undertake additional advanced training courses which are specific to your area of specialisation.

Fire Fighter

Basic Training

Upon successful enlistment into the Air Force you’ll be posted to RNZAF Base Woodbourne (near Blenheim). Here you’ll do 12 weeks of basic military training to find out if you’ve got what it takes to be in the Air force, and learn various subjects including:

  • Organisation and Administration
  • RNZAF Customs and Protocol
  • Drill and Parades
  • Military Field Skills and Weapon Training
  • First Aid, and Search and Rescue Techniques
  • Physical Fitness

Job Training

The second phase of your training is a 12 -week course at the School of Military Engineering, Linton Military camp, near Palmerston North, that covers various aspects of Fire and Rescue including:

  • Aircraft
  • Structural and Industrial
  • Hazardous materials
  • Rural
  • Pre-hospital emergency care
  • Urban Search and Rescue
  • Extrication techniques
     

After graduating you will be posted to an Air Force base for 18 to 24 months for more job training.
